Only Doug Ford and the Ontario PCs will Remain Relentlessly Focused on Securing Game-Changing Auto Investments
Billions of dollars in new investment securing hundreds of thousands of new jobs in Windsor and across Ontario
WINDSOR, May 13, 2022 – Today, Doug Ford announced that a re-elected PC government will remain relentlessly focused on securing more game-changing investments in electric vehicles and the batteries that power them.
“In four short years, our PC government has breathed new life into Ontario’s auto sector by securing billions in new investments,” said Doug Ford. “With sky-high hydro costs and mountains of red tape, the Del Duca-Wynne Liberals left the auto sector on life support and chased 300,000 good manufacturing jobs out of Ontario. Andrea Horwath and the NDP have sided with their ideological activists and would close every auto plant in the province.”
Over the last 18 months, the PC government has secured $14 billion in new investment in Ontario’s auto sector, including $5 billion from LG and Stellantis to build Canada’s first large-scale electric vehicle battery plant in Windsor.
Because of these investments, Windsor’s economy will grow significantly over the next several years. To support this and future growth, and ensure nothing stops additional investments, a re-elected PC government will invest $1 billion in and fast-track five new transmission lines to Windsor and southwestern Ontario. These new lines will help power the new Stellantis-LG battery plant, the growing greenhouse sector and will give businesses confidence to invest in and expand their operations and create new jobs in southwestern Ontario.
The $14 billion in recent game-changing investments are accelerating the PC government’s 10-year vision to transform the province’s automotive supply chain to build the cars of the future here in Ontario, including the production of hybrid and electric vehicles, batteries and component production. A re-elected PC government will continue to increase exports of Ontario-made electric vehicles, auto parts and innovations to markets around the world.
A re-elected PC government will also continue to invest in and build up home-grown supply chains that connect clean steel from Hamilton and Sault Ste. Marie and critical minerals, including from the Ring of Fire, with Ontario’s auto manufacturers. Ontario’s first-rate manufacturing talent, clean and competitive electricity, access to investment-ready sites and the Ontario PCs’ commitment to streamline the approvals process continue to make the province a top destination for major investment and job creation.
“After years of decline and reckless mismanagement by the Liberals and NDP, only the Ontario PCs will get it done and rebuild the province’s auto manufacturing industry to ensure that the cars of the future are made in Ontario by Ontario workers,” added Ford. “Nothing will slow us down as we build the infrastructure that businesses need to create jobs right here in southwestern Ontario.”
Doug Ford is the only leader with a real plan:
- Rebuilding Ontario’s economy with good manufacturing jobs, more support for small business and a mining plan that will finally open up the Ring of Fire.
- Working for workers by encouraging apprenticeships and opening up jobs in the skilled trades, allowing colleges to grant three-year degrees and increasing the minimum wage.
- Building highways and infrastructure, including Highway 413, the Bradford Bypass while investing in the 401 East
- Keeping costs down by lowering gas taxes, getting rid of license plate stickers and removing unfair tolls on Highways 412 and 418.
- Plan to stay open by hiring more nurses, doctors and personal support workers, allowing more seniors to stay in their own homes and producing more vaccines and critical supplies like PPE right here in Ontario.
Only Doug Ford will Get it Done.
QUOTES:
“Doug Ford has always made time to listen and learn about the issues important to Windsor and in the past four years he has delivered for our region. Windsor will soon be home to a $5-billion EV-battery plant, creating over 2,500 jobs, due in large part to the partnership we have built with the province. Our local hospital construction process is back on track and we all know that’s due to Doug Ford. To continue fighting for our region, it’s time for Windsor to have a seat at the table again; even more can be accomplished for our city if we elect local MPPs that form part of the next PC government.”
– Drew Dilkens
Mayor of Windsor
“Full credit to Doug Ford for the best run of investment attraction in Ontario’s auto sector ever. Suppliers to Stellantis, Ford, GM, Toyota and Honda are on firmer footing and have a brighter, electric future because of him. The last two years have been breathless.”
